In Thai society, Mahajanaka Jatakas from the Tripitaka has been reproduced in many forms. The story of Mahajanaka Jataka of King Bhumibol is an important model of the reproduced versions of Mahajanaka Jataka that conveys the message of Viriya regarding perseverance or courageousness to conduct good or right deeds.
Many forms of Mahajanaka Jatakas have been created – operas; stage plays; cartoon books; animation – all conveying the messages of Viriya. Mahajanaka Jataka in cartoon form is an approach to educate young people about the morality of perseverance they can undertake by themselves that can lead to benefits for society and country. Furthermore, Mahajanaka Jataka cartoons explain “World and Dharma” and encourages young Thai people in current society to learn that man abandons suffering because of perseverance.
