This article aims to analyze the social meaning of the narrative power of the Naga who protects the waters of Nong Kut Ting and Bung Khong Long in Bung Kan province, considered as important wetlands in the lower Mekong Basin. This research was based on a variety of ecological culture local history and memories, along with an analysis of a various texts.
The study indicates that the mythical serpent known as Naga is a binding concept of love, lust, greed and conflict, adhering to the truth, fostering religious belief and promoting ethical humanity, as well as the relation between reincarnations. Although society has become modernized, people still narrate and reinterpret stories of Naga in different medium. Naga represents the heritage of culture and practice between humans and nature.
